Ecocongregation - Sharing God’s Planet

Our churchyard has for many years been managed in an environmentally friendly manner. Back in 2005, with the support of Rev. Jane Beloe and others, Rev. Shirley launched the eco-congregation initiative, and an environmental policy was adopted by the PCC in August 2005:

  • To use environmental products
  • To recycle waste
  • To promote energy saving
  • To maintain the church and churchyard in an environmentally friendly manner.

In 2009, as part of the ‘Vision Process’ initiated by our vicar Bruce, we agreed to see how we can inject new life into the church’s Eco-congregation initiative. According to the website Eco-congregation is a tool to help churches begin to address environmental issues in all that they do. Churches are encouraged to use the resources provided to look at three main areas of church life:

  • spiritual: worship and teaching
  • practical: things to do with buildings, land and church management
  • mission: reaching out, both locally and globally

During 2010 a small group of parishioners came up with an updated action plan, which was approved by the PCC. A management programme for our churchyard is also in place. These are posted on separate pages and will be developed further during 2011.
