Eco-Church and Eco-Congregation

Caring for God’s creation
Our churchyard has been managed in an environmentally friendly way for many years. Following the launch of Eco-Congregation by the Christian conservation organisation A Rocha, the Revd Shirley Henderson launched the parish Eco-congregation initiative in 2005.
A Rocha’s Eco-Congregation helps churches to address environmental issues in all that they do, focusing on 3 main areas of church life:
- spiritual: worship and teaching
- practical: things to do with buildings, land and church management
- mission: reaching out, both locally and globally
Following an environmental audit in 2009, action plans and a Churchyard Management Plan were developed.
The Eco-Congregtion Policy was approved by the PCC in March 2013, and has been taken forward by the Parish Eco-Team. A Rocha’s Eco-congregation award was obtained in February 2016 and the Eco-Church Bronze awards was gained in 2018.
